Oil painting experiment!

Once upon a time, my parents took me to art classes. We worked mostly with oils and I royally sucked at it. Regardless, there are still paintings proudly hung in my house courtesy of 8 year old Karina. For some reason, it occurred to me that I could probably make my own wall art for my eventual apartment, Bartholomew. Thus, I bought three tubes of oils (white, blue, and other blue), some medium and a 5X5 canvas and paint whatever comes to me... which is usually swirly nonsense. But, I think it came out pretty cool and I can't wait to make the next one! ^_^

Christmas Crafts!!

Mod podge is new in my life and I kind went nuts now for Christmas :/
Thanks to Mod Podge Rocks...  Doiles + Craft Cone = .....
 Christmas trees!!!!
And wooden blocks that spell at noel. The ones on the left are still drying.
Karina wants a cricut. I printed out letters and cut them out onto cardstock -_- took me too long!

Well, next will most likely be my random wall art project I've decided to undertake for my future apartment. I feel the urge to paint with oils so I'm just gonna see what decides to come forth onto my canvas ^_^

Sick? Make a hearty treat!

Oh My God! Apple Fritters!!!!!
Today I got sick, so I decided to make some comfort food in the form of fried apple fritters!!!!! Basically I took Pioneer Woman's apple fritters (found here) and smothered them in a brown and white sugar and cinnamon mix (think Peach Valley fritters!) The making of these little guys and the eating was more therapeutic than an entire bottle of Nyquil. They were pretty easy to make. Just some simple steps:
Mix: the batter's quite easy. Just beware, Pioneer Woman's pictures tell you to mix the eggs milk and vanilla first then put in the melted butter, but the recipe below says to put the butter with the eggs and mix that in with the dry stuff. Don't know if it makes a difference...
Fry!!! I'll let Pioneer Woman explain the perfect temperature. I can't explain that better. Let's just say there is a test fritter involved, and it doesn't know that it's only calling in life is being a test fritter... :(
Dry!! The fritters are actually pretty awesome without anything on them at all. But if you're going to cover them in something, make sure you cover them while they're still hot!
SMOTHER!!! I took a tupperware and made my own mix to taste with brown and white sugar and cinnamon. Pioneer Woman puts powdered sugar or donut glaze on them. You can do anything with these puppies, or nothing at all. They're amazing whatever which way!
Love.

Some of my recent crafts

Random crafts I've made this year... all related to my sorority, Phi Mu! I tell my mom all the time that it feels like I went to college to craft. Wish I had taken better pictures of this stuff, but the main ones are still here!

Basket I made for one of my little sister. On the night that the big sisters reveal themselves to their little sisters, we give them decorated quatrefoils! We also give matching candles and embroidered blankets, but the quatrefoil is the main thing.
A detail of Nicole's quatrefoil! This picture's pretty bad, but the border is black and really shiny! I sealed it with a glossy sealant so it looks pretty cool.
House ties I made with cheap ties from ross and iron ons! My two littles were Slytherin and Gryffindor, I was Ravenclaw, and my big sister was Hufflepuff!
The quatrefoil I made for my other little; I have twins!
The paddle I made for my big sister! I gave it to her almost a year after I was supposed to but it ended up being pretty awesome!
I made those awesome pirate hats. Mine was "Big Booty" since I'm the big sister and my little and big sister were "Lil Booty" and "Bigga Booty," respectfully. I tried copying the pirates of the caribbean font when I made the letters out of foam. And I also made her candle out of a margarita glass!

A Christening!

Last "blog" I had was my livejournal, dedicated to my silly high school teenage angst, complete with the emo Belle and Sebastian lyric as my title. All I ever did was complain, trying to mimic gilmore girls speech but just coming off as annoying instead of awesome like Lorelai. This blog will be about all things Karina, random as hell and occasionally impressive. I've crafted too much to not show it off and now that I'm venturing into cooking, it might be cool to have somewhere to document my inevitable failures and hopefully some wins. Now onto christmas crafting!!
